Stellar Blade continues its rise to stardom, with developer Shift Up announcing that the game has sold over 3 million units globally. 
Remarkably, 1 million of those sales came from PC alone-within just three days of release.
This milestone also solidifies Stellar Blade’s status as the most successful Sony-published single-player game on Steam, boasting a record-breaking concurrent player count. The game has received an overwhelmingly positive response on the platform, with 94% of over 15,600 reviews being positive.
In a new interview with Korean outlet This Is Game, Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung-tae shared insights about the franchise’s future. While the team initially planned a large-scale DLC, the scope ballooned enough to justify shifting development toward a full sequel.
“Right now, all our resources were tied up in delivering the PC version. So we’re in the R&D phase for the sequel, trying to envision the next-gen experience,” Kim explained. He expressed hope for a 2027 release for Stellar Blade 2, although he admitted that timeline might be overly ambitious given the early state of development.
Kim also addressed criticisms of the original game’s weak narrative. He revealed that more character and world-building elements were initially planned, but budget constraints forced the team to cut many narrative-driven cutscenes. He acknowledged the limitations of Korea’s current infrastructure for developing story-rich AAA titles, but promised the sequel would offer a much deeper narrative if greenlit.
Considering Stellar Blade only launched on PS5 in April 2024, aiming for a 2027 sequel launch is ambitious. Still, given the game’s performance and fan response, it’s clear Shift Up has momentum-and motivation-on its side.
