Redmi is about to launch its first-ever flagship tablet, the K Pad, on June 18 in China. While the official release is imminent, the company has already given us a sneak peek to build anticipation. 
At first glance, the K Pad bears a striking resemblance to the iPad Mini, which is no coincidence-it’s designed to directly compete with Apple’s mini tablet.
The K Pad is equipped with MediaTek’s powerful Dimensity 9400+ chipset, a significant upgrade from the previous Redmi Pad Pro, which featured Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. But it’s not just the chipset that sets the K Pad apart. The upcoming tablet sports a smaller, 8.8-inch LCD display compared to the larger 12.1-inch screen of the Pad Pro. This smaller size, according to Xiaomi’s Lu Weibing, makes the K Pad more compact and portable, perfect for those who need a tablet that’s easy to carry around.
Thomas Wang from Redmi also shared details about the K Pad’s display. It will offer ultra-high resolution, dual-driver ICs for syncing data, brightness, and color, though specifics are still scarce. From earlier reports, we know the K Pad will feature an 8.8-inch LCD screen with 3K resolution, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and a super smooth 165Hz refresh rate.
When it comes to charging, the K Pad doesn’t disappoint. It will support a rapid 67W wired charging, which is impressive for such a compact device. As for the price, while there’s no official confirmation yet, it’s rumored to be priced around 4,000 yuan ($555 / €480), which seems like a good deal considering the specs.
To put this into perspective, the entry-level iPad Mini costs about $500, offering 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, but without cellular support. It remains to be seen whether the K Pad will be priced similarly or slightly higher when it makes its way outside China.
