The Fairphone 6 is here, and it might just be the most advanced modular smartphone in the mid-range category. Fairphone, a Dutch company famous for creating phones with customizable, swappable parts, is launching its sixth model later this month.
And it promises to push the modular concept even further, featuring a completely customizable back cover so you can make the phone your own.
But before you get too excited, let’s talk specs. Roland Quandt from Winfuture.de has leaked some juicy details about the phone. First things first: don’t expect flagship-level performance. The Fairphone 6 is still very much a mid-range phone. But that doesn’t mean it’s not impressive.
For starters, the Fairphone 6 sports a 6.31-inch LTPO P-OLED display with a dynamic refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz. With a resolution of 2484 x 1116 pixels (432 ppi), it offers a solid viewing experience, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i for durability.
Under the hood, it packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, which, while not cutting-edge, is a solid performer for everyday tasks. The phone is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which can be expanded up to a whopping 2TB via a microSD card slot.
When it comes to battery life, the Fairphone 6 has a 4,415 mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging, a slight upgrade over the 4,200 mAh battery and 30W charging found in the Fairphone 5. It’s not groundbreaking, but it should get the job done.
The camera setup is where things get interesting. The Fairphone 6 features a dual-camera system with a 50MP primary sensor (f/1.56 aperture) and a 13MP ultra-wide camera with a 120-degree field of view. On the front, it has a 32MP selfie camera. For comparison, the Fairphone 5 had two 50MP cameras on the back and one 50MP camera on the front, so the Fairphone 6’s camera specs seem like a downgrade, although it’s reported that the overall quality is better.
The Fairphone 6 will run Android 15 out of the box and is expected to receive six or seven years of software updates, ensuring it stays relevant for a long time.
As for availability, Fairphone is expected to launch the Fairphone 6 in Europe on June 25, with a price tag of €550. While it’s not the cheapest option in the market, it offers an appealing choice for those who want a truly modular phone, with the flexibility to swap out parts as needed.
