NVIDIA is preparing to launch the GeForce RTX 5090 DD as the next flagship GPU designed specifically for the Chinese market.
This new model is reportedly an export-compliant version, complying with recent regulations, and will carry some significant changes from the original RTX 5090.
According to recent leaks from trusted sources, the GeForce RTX 5090 DD will retain the 21,760 CUDA cores found in both the RTX 5090 and RTX 5090 D, but will feature reduced memory specifications. The DD will have 24 GB of GDDR7 memory, scaled down from the 32 GB found in the original RTX 5090, with a 384-bit memory bus and 28 Gbps memory speeds. Power consumption remains at 575W, the same as the other models in the series.
For context, the RTX 5090 D was launched as a China-specific variant earlier in 2025, but NVIDIA reportedly stopped production due to escalating export restrictions. This decision was followed by rumors of a new, scaled-back version targeted for the region, dubbed the RTX 5090 DD. Leaker MEGAsizeGPU, known for their accurate NVIDIA leaks, shared details about the new design, highlighting key differences in the GPU configuration.
One of the most notable changes is that the new GPU will use the GB202-240 chipset, a different version compared to the GB202-250 on the RTX 5090 D and the GB202-300 used in the global RTX 5090. The DD will also feature a new PCB design, PG145 SKU 40, which aligns with changes in both VRAM and GPU layout. In terms of specifications, the RTX 5090 DD will be downgraded to 14,080 CUDA cores, which represents a 35% reduction, and the VRAM will be cut by 25%. The gaming performance is expected to drop by 20-30%, making it less powerful than its more expensive counterparts.
Despite these downgrades, the GeForce RTX 5090 DD is expected to come at a more affordable price compared to the standard RTX 5090, with a possible retail price of around $1500, which is substantially lower than the original $1999 price tag. However, the exact launch date remains unconfirmed, though it is expected to hit the market soon.
