OnePlus 15 Ditches Hasselblad, Packs Giant Battery and In-House Camera System
The upcoming OnePlus 15 is shaping up to be a bold leap forward for the brand, with major changes in design, battery life, and camera technology. Slated for an October release in China, the global rollout isn’t expected until 2026.
Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station revealed the OnePlus 15 will feature a massive 7000mAh+ battery, making it the largest among flagship smartphones. Even better, it supports lightning-fast 100W charging both wired and wirelessly – a significant upgrade for power users.
Durability is also a highlight. The device is expected to carry both IP68 and IP69 ratings, making it resistant to dust, water submersion up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, and even high-pressure hot water jets.
In a surprising twist, OnePlus appears to be scaling back its display specs. Instead of the curved 6.82-inch 2K screen found on the OnePlus 13, the OnePlus 15 will use a 6.78-inch flat display with a slightly lower 1.5K resolution – possibly a move to improve durability and usability.
Notably, there’s no OnePlus 14 – due to tetraphobia, the number 4 is avoided in Chinese culture as it sounds like the word “death.” The brand jumps from 13 directly to 15.
Under the hood, the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Elite chip (referred to as Snapdragon 8 Elite 2), promising top-tier performance. Early prototype images suggest a redesign, with no round camera island in sight. However, the final hardware could differ.
The biggest shift may be in imaging. OnePlus might be ending its collaboration with Hasselblad to pursue its own camera system – similar to what Huawei did with XMAGE. The OnePlus 15 is rumored to sport a triple 50MP camera array, including a large main sensor and a periscope zoom lens, signaling serious photography ambitions.
From its humble beginnings in 2014 – when buyers needed an invite to purchase the original $299 OnePlus One – the brand has grown dramatically. The OnePlus 15 could be a defining moment, positioning the company as a true innovator in the flagship smartphone space.
