Elden Ring Nightreign Patch 1.01.3 has dropped across all platforms, bringing with it a few tweaks and bug fixes that fans are excited about.
While the update focuses primarily on minor adjustments, there’s one change that’s made a significant impact on players’ experiences.
The patch introduces a balance change that increases the chances of obtaining weapons with the madness status ailment. Madness, when inflicted on enemies, can be a powerful tool, especially since a fully charged madness effect causes enemies to suffer significant damage and even makes their eyes explode in fiery chaos. One notable enemy, the Nightlord Libra, is particularly vulnerable to madness, making it a useful strategy for players looking to take him down.
However, despite this change, some players have voiced skepticism on forums like r/Nightreign. The majority of weapons in Nightreign don’t carry madness as a status effect, with only a few exceptions like Vyke’s Spear or certain incantation seals. Moreover, not every enemy is susceptible to madness, which limits the usefulness of this tweak in some cases. One player pointed out that they had only managed to obtain a madness-afflicted incantation once and hoped that this patch might increase the chances of rolling madness on regular weapons. “It would be nice if madness wasn’t so rare, especially since it’s so useful against Libra,” one comment read.
More exciting for many players, however, is the bug fix aimed at improving the game’s revival mechanics. Prior to this patch, players would occasionally lose a battle after being revived from near death while facing a Nightlord or other Night bosses. This bug caused considerable frustration, with one player recalling that it happened “like 20 times,” describing the experience as “psychological horror.” The bug fix is welcome, as it ensures a smoother experience for players attempting to clear difficult Night bosses.
Aside from these changes, the patch also brings some quality-of-life improvements, such as adjustments to the visibility of the Whirlwind skill for Guardian players with a certain Relic equipped. While these changes are relatively small, they contribute to a more polished and enjoyable experience overall.
However, not all players’ wishes were granted with this update. Many are still hoping for a fix related to Shifting Earth events, which can sometimes become exceedingly rare after completing the final boss. These events add an extra layer of challenge and exploration to Nightreign, but their scarcity has left some players frustrated. Despite this, FromSoftware has teased that “enhanced” versions of the current Nightlord roster are expected to arrive later this month, giving players something to look forward to in future updates.
Overall, while the patch may not have addressed every player request, it certainly improves the game in key areas, making Nightreign a smoother and more enjoyable experience for those still deep in their journey.
