Smartphone cameras have long been a key feature in the battle for tech dominance, and while smartphone design has leveled out, the evolution of mobile photography continues to keep us on the edge of our seats. Today, let’s talk about the Oppo Find X9 series and its exciting potential to take the camera game to new heights, with a little help from an unexpected source: Samsung.
While the Oppo Find X9 Ultra is sure to grab the spotlight when it drops (expected in September 2025), it’s the Oppo Find X9 Pro that’s getting some well-deserved attention.
As we’ve seen before, non-Ultra phones are capable of packing a punch, and the Find X9 Pro is shaping up to do just that.
The buzz surrounding this phone centers on a piece of tech that might change everything: the Samsung HP5 sensor
. According to renowned leaker Digital Chat Station, the Oppo Find X9 Pro could be the world’s first device to feature this cutting-edge 200 MP sensor. This is exciting news because, as many readers may remember, the Samsung HP5 sensor was once rumored to debut in the Galaxy S25 Edge, but those speculations were dashed when the Galaxy S25 Edge launched with a different sensor, the HP2.
So what makes the HP5 sensor so special? Built on a 28nm node process, this 0.5μm pixel sensor measures 1/1.56-inch in size-slightly smaller than the HP9 sensor in the Galaxy S25, but still packed with potential. If Oppo does indeed use the HP5 in the Find X9 Pro, it would be a massive upgrade for users coming from the Find X7 Ultra, whose telephoto camera only has a 1/2.51-inch sensor. Larger sensors like the HP5 offer better light sensitivity and improved image detail, so it’s easy to see why this is such big news.
Despite the impressive numbers, there are still some doubts around the telephoto performance. Digital Chat Station mentions that while the image quality of the 10X zoom on the HP5 is still very good, it may not quite match the performance of the dual periscope camera found in the Ultra model. But hey, that’s what the Ultra is for, right?
On top of the larger sensor and high megapixel count, the HP5 sensor might feature Samsung’s DCG-HDR technology, which would bring improved dynamic range and better performance in low-light conditions. If Oppo delivers on this, the Find X9 Pro could very well be the camera phone of the year.

This sounds too good to be true. Is Oppo really about to blow everything else out of the water? 🔥
