Huawei kicked off its Developer Conference today with a major reveal: HarmonyOS 6.
The next iteration of Huawei’s in-house operating system introduces a polished design, several enhancements, and a groundbreaking new feature – the Intelligent Agent Framework.
This framework brings a more natural, human-like interaction between users and the OS, primarily through its personal assistant, XiaoYi. Unlike traditional voice assistants that respond to simple prompts, XiaoYi can intuitively understand complex requests and provide tailored responses. This includes scanning the entire screen of your smartphone to deliver results, akin to features like Circle to Search.
Huawei demonstrated HarmonyOS 6’s AI capabilities on stage, showcasing how users can interact with ChatExcel for Excel tasks or ask XiaoYi for assistance in developing apps for the new system.
Another exciting feature is Touch and Share. Available on select Huawei devices, this feature enables easy sharing of files between smartphones and PCs by simply tapping the phone to the computer’s screen. While Huawei hasn’t specified exactly which devices will support this feature, it is expected to be exclusive to Huawei products.
The HarmonyOS 6 Developer Beta Program is now live, and developers can sign up until June 30. To participate, developers must complete verification through Huawei’s Developer Alliance. Supported devices for the beta include the Huawei Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 60, Mate 60 Pro, Mate X5, and the MatePad Pro 11-inch (2024) and MatePad Pro 13.2 (2025).
