AMD’s UDNA Powers Up Next-Gen PS6 & Xbox With Big Boosts in Ray Tracing, AI, and Raster

AMD’s UDNA GPUs and Next-Gen Consoles: Huge Gains in Ray Tracing, AI & Raster Performance

AMD is preparing a major leap with its upcoming UDNA graphics architecture, poised to power the next wave of Radeon GPUs and next-gen gaming consoles like the PlayStation 6 and Xbox-next. According to a trusted insider, Kepler_L2, who shared info on the NeoGAF forums, AMD’s UDNA will bring serious upgrades across the board-particularly in ray tracing and AI performance, aligning with where the gaming industry is headed.

While these details are not officially confirmed, the leaks suggest we’re looking at a 20% rasterization performance boost per Compute Unit compared to RDNA 4. That’s before even accounting for the likelihood of AMD increasing the CU count itself. For reference, the PS5 Pro uses 60 CUs, the Xbox Series X uses 56, and RDNA 4 cards like the RX 9070 XT sport 64 CUs-albeit optimized differently compared to RDNA 3’s 96 CUs.

Where UDNA really shines, though, is ray tracing and AI. AMD is reportedly targeting 2x performance in both areas, signaling a serious push into real-time path tracing and AI-driven upscaling. These are technologies becoming essential in modern game engines, especially as Unreal Engine 5 becomes more widespread. Expect support for next-gen FSR 4 (Redstone), frame generation, and real-time neural enhancements to stabilize and beautify gameplay even further.

In short, while UDNA is still under wraps officially, the direction is clear: AMD wants to dominate the ray-traced future of gaming, and with big gains in raster and AI, they might actually pull it off-especially if both Sony and Microsoft jump in with the same tech. But as always, treat these leaks with caution until AMD makes things official.
