NVIDIA is gearing up to launch a new GPU, the GeForce RTX 5090DD, in China, with a tentative release date set for August. This model is expected to feature downgraded specifications compared to its Western counterparts, a move likely driven by the US export restrictions that have shaped NVIDIA’s design choices in the region. After the GeForce RTX 5090D ban, rumors suggest that the RTX 5090DD will make its way to retail markets in August, offering a slightly lower-performing alternative at a competitive price range of $1,200 to $1,500.

The RTX 5090DD will maintain the same core count as the RTX 5090 and RTX 5090D, featuring 21,760 cores.

However, its memory will be reduced to 24 GB across a 384-bit bus, running at 28 Gbps speeds. The TDP remains unchanged at 575W, but the memory downgrade is likely to result in a noticeable performance gap compared to the standard RTX 5090. The new model will also feature a revised PCB design, known as PG145 SKU 40, which reflects the changes in VRAM and GPU layout.

In terms of AI capabilities, there have been rumors of a cut-down Blackwell AI chip, but details are scarce at this point. While the RTX 5090DD is expected to cater to the Chinese market with a more affordable price tag, it remains to be seen how the card will perform in comparison to the high-end models available elsewhere.

As NVIDIA navigates its position in the Chinese market, the RTX 5090DD could serve as a stepping stone to greater presence, though it remains clear that the performance trade-off will be substantial for Chinese consumers. The August release date is subject to change based on market conditions, but it’s expected to be a pivotal moment for NVIDIA’s strategy in the region.
