Apple is rumored to make a significant change to the rear panel of its upcoming M5 iPad Pro, which is expected to launch sometime in 2025. With the 2024 M4-powered iPad Pro already making waves, it’s looking like the M5 model may push the boundaries even further.

A report from Korea has confirmed that the OLED panels for the device are already in mass production, courtesy of Samsung and LG. If all goes as planned, we could see the new tablet hitting the shelves by the 2025 holiday season.

Last year, Samsung supplied OLED displays for the 11-inch M4 iPad Pro, while LG took care of the 13-inch panels for the 2024 model. Now, both companies are set to provide OLED screens for both the 11-inch and 13-inch models of the 2025 iPad Pro. This marks the first time that Apple has adopted OLED technology in its iPads, replacing the older LCD panels. OLED displays offer superior contrast, deeper blacks, and wider viewing angles. Since OLED pixels produce their own light, there’s no need for a backlight, which makes the screens thinner and more flexible. OLEDs are also more energy-efficient because they consume less power in Dark mode by turning off individual pixels.

In addition to the OLED upgrade, the M5 iPad Pro will feature Apple’s most advanced chip, the M5 processor, built using TSMC’s 3nm process node. But the biggest surprise is the rumored change to the rear Apple logo. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the logo will now be positioned in landscape orientation, rather than the previous portrait orientation. This change is expected to complement how users typically hold their iPads in landscape mode, providing a more cohesive and aesthetically pleasing look. The M5 iPad Pro is shaping up to be a powerhouse, both in terms of performance and design.
