Google is giving its Gemini AI assistant a subtle but meaningful makeover.
A newly spotted update in the beta version 16.25 of the Google app reveals a redesigned Gemini sparkle icon, now infused with Google’s iconic four-color scheme. The familiar sparkle shape remains, but each of its four points now glows in a distinct color – blue, red, yellow, and green – echoing the refreshed Google ‘G’ logo.
Until now, Gemini stood out with its bluish-purple gradient, helping it visually separate from other AI tools. But with countless platforms using similar sparkles to denote AI, Google’s shift toward its trademark colors appears to be a strategic branding play. The change not only ties Gemini more closely to Google’s broader design language but also strengthens the product’s identity in an increasingly crowded AI landscape.
Currently, the updated icon has only shown up during the generation of Audio Overviews in the Android beta. It’s not yet live across the full Gemini app for Android, iOS, or desktop – but this limited appearance may be the first step toward a wider rollout.
This isn’t the first tweak to Gemini’s visual branding. Back in April, the app’s icon colors were brightened to enhance homescreen visibility. Then in May, the launch of Gemini Advanced as “AI Premium” quietly dropped the red variant of the logo.
Though small, the updated sparkle icon signifies a deliberate push to unify the Gemini experience under Google’s brand umbrella. It serves both functional and symbolic roles – helping users recognize it as an official Google product while making it stand out more clearly among the flood of AI tools.
With Google embedding AI deeper into its services, this refreshed icon hints that Gemini is evolving from a standalone tool into a foundational element of the Google ecosystem. Keep an eye out – this might just be the beginning of a bigger visual evolution.
