Gearbox has listened to the fanbase and is offering a new feature in Borderlands 4 that allows you to completely mute or adjust the volume of everyone’s favorite (or least favorite) robot companion, Claptrap. Since his debut in 2009, Claptrap has been the face of the Borderlands series, often balancing between being hilarious and annoying. For some, his high-pitched voice and cringe-worthy humor were a fun part of the game, but for others, he quickly wore thin.
Now, thanks to the newly introduced audio slider, players can finally tailor their Claptrap experience to their liking.
In a cheeky post on social media, Borderlands 4 narrative director Sam Winkler teased that he wrote lines specifically for the audio feature, including a reference to a “terrible accent” in a cult-classic immersive sim. Winkler also playfully shared his idea of a volume slider that would allow Claptrap’s voice to go all the way up to 200%, but hinted that the government “said no” to that idea. He also responded to fans who suggested the developers shouldn’t have “caved to Claptrap haters,” acknowledging the humorous feature as a balance between player preferences.
While Claptrap may not be the primary focus of Borderlands 4, his return provides a mix of nostalgia and chaos, and the new audio option ensures that players can enjoy the game without enduring his antics if they choose not to. Borderlands 4 promises all the thrills of previous games with billions of weapons, over-the-top enemies, and intense co-op action. It’s a looter-shooter that continues the series’ legacy of wild adventures. Preorders are now live, and the game will cost $70 instead of the expected $80, putting some concerns to rest.
