MSI Afterburner just got a significant update – and while MSI itself may be dragging its feet, the tool’s main developer, known as Unwinder, isn’t waiting around.
The latest beta build of the iconic GPU tweaking utility now brings unofficial support for AMD’s Radeon RX 9000 series (RDNA4 architecture), despite MSI not selling any cards based on this GPU family.
The move reflects the continued community-driven spirit behind Afterburner, with Unwinder personally adding Radeon RX 9000 series support, including the popular RX 9070 XT. Users can now tweak fan curves, overclock settings, and monitor GPU metrics just as they would with officially supported cards. Unwinder stated clearly: “MSI does not sell RDNA4 cards. Support is unofficial, but it’s here.”
The update doesn’t stop there. The new MSI Afterburner 4.6.6 Beta 6 Build 16591 also introduces preliminary support for NVIDIA’s upcoming RTX 5000 series GPUs, potentially including early database hooks for models like the RTX 5050. In addition, users can enjoy extended overclocking ranges – up to +3000MHz memory clocks – and performance tweaks, along with fixes for Intel’s Arrow Lake CPU power sensors.
While MSI might be hesitant to embrace AMD’s latest GPU line, the developer community isn’t waiting. This beta release, available via Guru3D, continues to cement Afterburner as the go-to tool for GPU enthusiasts – regardless of official branding politics.
