AMD’s recently launched Threadripper 9000 series, dubbed Shimada Peak, has taken the multi-threaded CPU competition to the next level. The latest addition, the Threadripper Pro 9995WX, has hit the charts with an impressive multi-core score of 30,170 points in Geekbench, putting it head-to-head with the previous flagship, the Threadripper Pro 7995WX, which scored slightly higher at 30,579 points
. Despite being on par with its predecessor, the 9995WX introduces significant improvements in terms of performance thanks to its Zen 5 architecture and a higher boost clock speed.
The Threadripper Pro 9995WX features an enormous 96 cores and 192 threads, the same configuration as the 7995WX, but with a boost clock 300 MHz higher. While single-core performance still lags behind, the multi-core capabilities have been substantially enhanced, giving it a competitive edge in workstation tasks that can fully leverage the massive core count.
Although Intel’s processors still dominate in single-core performance, the Threadripper CPUs have long been leaders in multi-threaded workloads. Geekbench results show that while the Threadripper Pro 9995WX might not break records, its ability to handle multi-threaded tasks with efficiency positions it as a strong contender in the professional market.
The 9995WX is a notable leap forward in AMD’s workstation chips, with higher clock speeds contributing to better overall performance. However, it still remains somewhat behind in single-core tasks. On the enterprise market, this chip is available through Pro Vantage, priced at a steep $12,793-significantly higher than its predecessor’s $9,999 price tag. This price point could come down over time, but for now, it underscores the premium nature of this cutting-edge hardware.
The launch of the Threadripper 9000 WX series marks a significant milestone in AMD’s effort to dominate the high-end workstation market, and the 9995WX is certainly making waves. Despite its relatively modest Geekbench scores, it is clear that AMD’s focus on core count and threading is the key selling point for this beast of a processor.
