In an unusual and alarming incident, a gamer experienced a catastrophic failure when his GeForce RTX 4060 Ti suffered severe damage due to a fire originating from a malfunctioning power supply. While working on Adobe design tools, the PC suddenly shut down, and smoke began pouring out of the case. 
On investigation, the user discovered that the GPU’s backplate had been completely decimated by the fire, and the PCIe slot and power cables were also severely burned.
After quickly unplugging the components to prevent further damage, the user determined that the cause of the fire was likely a faulty MegaMax 800W power supply, which is listed in the “Avoid” section of the Cultists Network PSU Tier list. This underpowered and low-quality PSU likely failed under load, causing a short circuit that ignited the fire. Additionally, the user had installed a refurbished motherboard, which could have also contributed to the issue. Despite these setbacks, the user is sending the components to a repair shop for further investigation and repair.
This incident highlights the importance of selecting high-quality components, particularly power supplies, when building a PC.
