The Long Walk: New Character Posters and Comic-Con Panel Reveal

IGN is excited to exclusively debut 10 brand-new character posters from The Long Walk, an upcoming survival thriller based on Stephen King’s gripping novel (published under his pseudonym Richard Bachman). Set in a dystopian near-future, the story follows a group of young men who enter a televised competition in which they must walk as far as possible without stopping. The last man standing wins, but those who can’t keep moving face a brutal fate: three warnings are given, and if they stop, they are shot. It’s a relentless contest where walking is the only way to survive.

Take a look at the character posters below to get a glimpse of the fierce competitors, each marked by their contestant numbers. Notably, the film’s antagonist is none other than Mark Hamill, who takes on the role of Major, a sinister leader of the competition’s military escort. The star-studded cast also features Cooper Hoffman as Raymond Garraty, David Jonsson as Peter McVries, and Charlie Plummer as Barkovitch, among others.

In addition to the character posters, IGN can confirm that The Long Walk will be part of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The film’s panel will take place on Friday, July 25th, from 3-4 PM in Hall H, and will feature an exciting lineup of panelists, including cast members David Jonsson, Tut Nyuot, Garrett Wareing, Charlie Plummer, and Mark Hamill, as well as producer Roy Lee and screenwriter JT Mollner.

The film is directed by Francis Lawrence, known for his work on the Hunger Games franchise. Lawrence has expressed a deep admiration for King’s novel, calling it one of his personal favorites. He notes that while the story is intense and violent, the themes of camaraderie and human relationships make it a profoundly beautiful tale at its core. The complex dynamics between the contestants make the book feel timeless, something that Lawrence believes holds true even in today’s world.
