Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s sci-fi thriller Project Hail Mary is already making waves before it even hits theaters in 2026. The film, starring Ryan Gosling, has reached an extraordinary milestone, having broken a record for the most viewed trailer of any original film, excluding sequels or remakes.
The trailer has surpassed 400 million views within just one week of being released online.
Lord shared this exciting news on social media, expressing his gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans. In his post, he said, “Holy Moly! Thank you all you glorious generous fans of movies, books, near light speed space travel, and the Sun for pushing the trailer for Project Hail Mary past 400 million views – the most in one week for a non-sequel, non-remake original film trailer… ever.” He also hinted at some surprises awaiting fans, including appearances from Gosling, co-director Chris Miller, and the film’s writer Drew Goddard at San Diego Comic-Con.
This marks the second adaptation of a book by Andy Weir, the first being the 2015 hit The Martian, which grossed over $630 million at the global box office. With such a successful track record, it’s no wonder that Amazon MGM Studios is betting on another Weir adaptation. Besides Gosling, the cast of Project Hail Mary includes Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub, all adding their talents to this eagerly awaited sci-fi tale.
Fans are clearly hyped, and with good reason – Project Hail Mary promises to deliver a thrilling, scientifically grounded adventure when it arrives in theaters on March 20, 2026.
