The latest iPhone 17 rumors are making waves with a fresh claim: the device will feature the all-new Apple A19 chip, not the A18 as initially thought. This revelation comes from GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, who has corrected his earlier statement about the upcoming iPhone’s hardware. According to Pu, the iPhone 17 will be powered by the A19 chip, and the same will go for the iPhone 17 Air.
It’s a significant shift, especially since we were previously led to believe the next iPhone would only receive incremental upgrades.
However, if you’re hoping for an increase in RAM on the base model of the iPhone 17, you’re in for disappointment. The baseline iPhone 17 will still feature 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM. In contrast, the other two models in the lineup-the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max-will boast 12GB of RAM. Notably, the Pro and Pro Max will also get faster LPDDR5X RAM, while the Air model will stick with LPDDR5 speeds.
Another key change for the iPhone 17 series is the introduction of Apple’s self-designed Wi-Fi 7 chip, which is expected to be a part of all models. As for the display, the vanilla iPhone 17 will reportedly feature a larger 6.3-inch OLED screen, with a 120Hz refresh rate-although, unlike the Pro series, it won’t be an LTPO panel (which is the technology behind Apple’s ProMotion feature). These updates, however, are still only rumors, and we’ll have to wait until Apple’s official September 8 launch to get the full details.
