As the first motherboard manufacturer to roll out a BIOS based on AMD’s latest AGESA firmware, MSI is giving enthusiasts and system builders a peek into what’s coming in the Zen 5-powered “Granite Ridge” lineup.

The new BIOS, currently available in beta, not only enables support for these upcoming CPUs – including F-series chips without integrated graphics – but also improves memory handling significantly. Users can now enjoy expanded DRAM compatibility, including support for massive 256 GB configurations using four 64 GB DDR5 sticks. This puts AMD motherboards on equal footing with Intel in terms of memory scalability.

Security improvements are also part of the package, continuing MSI’s response to fTPM vulnerabilities found in earlier firmware versions. The update includes stability fixes and better overclocking support, ensuring smoother performance across various workloads and configurations.

While most of MSI’s X870 and B850/B840 motherboards have received the update, a few models, including the PRO X870E-P WIFI and some in the older 600-series, are still waiting. It’s worth noting this is a beta BIOS – so unless you’re dealing with specific issues or prepping for a CPU upgrade, it might be wise to wait for the official release.

Still, the proactive move from MSI is a positive signal for the enthusiast community. With Ryzen 9000 series processors on the horizon, the update sets the groundwork for high-capacity rigs and more future-proof builds, even if the pricing and full specs of those CPUs are still under wraps.
