FromSoftware, the acclaimed studio behind Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, is quietly pushing forward with a new secretive project set for release as early as 2026.
According to sources cited by MP1st, the Japanese developer is juggling multiple titles, including post-launch content for Elden Ring: Nightreign, a game called The Duskbloods for the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, and an unannounced multiplatform project codenamed FMC.
While details on FMC are scarce, its development is reportedly far along, suggesting it may see the light of day in late 2025 or early 2026-barring delays. The codename itself offers little, but long-time fans might notice that FromSoftware traditionally uses “F” in codenames tied to legacy franchises like Dark Souls and Armored Core. That has sparked speculation: is this a return to Lordran or Rubicon?
Studio president and Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki previously stated the Souls saga had concluded, meaning FMC could potentially be a spiritual successor, a standalone spin-off, or even a long-rumored remaster-likely Dark Souls III, the only mainline entry without a remastered version to date.
Meanwhile, Elden Ring: Nightreign continues to expand FromSoftware’s mythology with roguelite elements and robust co-op gameplay. The studio appears to be at a creative high point, blending innovation with fan-favorite mechanics across platforms.
Whether FMC revives a familiar universe or forges a new path, it’s clear FromSoftware isn’t slowing down any time soon.
