This new wireless charging standard delivers up to 25W of power, marking a significant upgrade over the previous 15W spec.

Qi2 25W, now marketed under a fresh name, aims to bring faster wireless charging to the masses. The WPC has confirmed that “major Android smartphones” will soon join the Qi2 ecosystem, along with Apple’s iPhones, in supporting this new charging standard. Fourteen devices, including both receivers and transmitters, recently passed Qi2 25W certification, and several hundred more devices are queued up for testing.

While many of these devices will likely be accessories like chargers and power banks, it will be interesting to see Android phones also adopt the new standard. One of the big questions is whether these phones will continue with a magnet-free approach or follow Apple’s lead with built-in magnets.

Compared to the older 15W spec, Qi2 25W offers nearly 70% more power, aligning with consumer demand for faster wireless charging. According to WPC market research, faster charging is the top feature users want to see improved in wireless technology.
