The new camera system described in the patent could be as slim as 3mm, potentially protruding slightly from the MacBook Pro lid. What’s intriguing is the uncertainty about where this camera would be located. Some illustrations show the camera positioned near the display’s notch, while others show it mounted on the side of the screen or even on the back of the device. This hints at the possibility of a more flexible design.
The patent also talks about the use of magnets to attach the camera to the MacBook, which could allow users to reposition it. This setup might include multiple camera modules-one at the front and another at the back-that could communicate with each other. Additionally, there’s mention of a rotatable display or possibly a detachable screen that could be used in tandem with the camera.
Although the patent suggests a level of flexibility that could make filming easier and offer more angles, Apple hasn’t detailed how the system would function in practice. Could a rotating display or detachable camera be a practical solution, or is it more of a concept that may never reach consumers? Time will tell, but the idea of a camera that can be repositioned and a laptop display that can switch between landscape and portrait mode is certainly an interesting one. However, there are concerns over durability.
