Starfield Receives New Beta Update as Bethesda Hints at ‘Exciting Things’ to Come

Earlier today, Bethesda Game Studios released a fresh beta update for Starfield on Steam, accessible to players through the beta build option in the game’s Steam library tab. As expected, this is a relatively small patch, with the changelog detailing a few minor tweaks:

  • Minor improvements to formatting and display in Creations menus.
  • Fixed an issue where Extreme Temperature gear was displaying incorrectly.
  • Enhanced sorting functionality in the Missions Menu.
  • General stability and crash fixes.

However, the more noteworthy news comes from Bethesda’s statement that they have ‘exciting things’ in the pipeline for Starfield, with more information expected ‘in the coming months.’ This is a sentiment the studio has reiterated before, following a quiet period in March. Game Director Todd Howard had mentioned that Starfield would receive annual story expansions, though the absence of any recent announcements suggests the rumored second expansion won’t be arriving in 2025 after all.

It’s speculated that the delay may be linked to the postponed PlayStation 5 release, with Bethesda potentially planning to bundle the second expansion alongside the PS5 version. On the other hand, developers might be aiming for a more significant expansion following the lukewarm reception of the Shattered Space expansion. While the expansion offered an intriguing story, it didn’t do much to improve the overall gameplay experience, earning mixed reviews, including a 6/10 from Wccftech’s Francesco De Meo.

Despite some fans enjoying the deeper exploration of the game’s universe and a more complex faction, Shattered Space did not address many of the core issues players have had with the game, particularly its space exploration mechanics.
