Samsung Galaxy A17 5G: Same Chipset, New Camera Features

Samsung has once again surprised fans with the upcoming Galaxy A17 5G, which was recently spotted on Geekbench. While the focus has been on the camera upgrade, particularly with the introduction of optical image stabilization (OIS) for the first time in the A1x series, the chipset remains the same as its predecessor. The Galaxy A17 5G will feature the Exynos 1330 (S5E8535) chip, which was also used in the Galaxy A14 5G and A16 5G. This chip is built on a 5nm process and consists of two powerful Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.4GHz and six efficient Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0GHz, along with a Mali-G68 MP2 GPU.

In terms of memory, the A17 5G is expected to come with at least 6GB of RAM, although we don’t know yet whether this will be LPDDR4X or LPDDR5.

The device will likely offer multiple configurations, just like the A16, which had options for 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB RAM. On the storage front, the A17 supports UFS 2.2 and UFS 3.1, meaning faster data transfer speeds. While previous A1x models were capped at 90Hz refresh rates, the A17 will be able to handle displays up to 120Hz, a nice improvement for smoother scrolling and gaming.

As for software, the Galaxy A17 5G is expected to ship with Android 15, running One UI 7. However, this means that the device will arrive with an older version of Samsung’s custom UI, especially when compared to other upcoming devices which will run One UI 8. Despite the chipset staying the same, the addition of OIS and the likely upgrade in RAM should provide a better overall experience for users. However, some are disappointed with the decision to reuse the same processor for a third consecutive generation, leaving the A17 5G with a chip that could feel outdated after a few years of use.
