As the THQ Nordic Showcase approaches next month, Alkimia Interactive has released an insightful ‘Making Of’ video, offering a closer look at their artistic vision for the upcoming Gothic Remake. In the video, Reinhard Pollice, the game’s director and head of the studio, emphasizes that the team’s goal is not to simply create an HD version of the original game. “We wanted to give the world a fresh approach while staying true to the essence of Gothic,” Pollice explains.
The video also features insights from the studio’s art director, Daniel Candil, as they discuss the delicate balance between crafting a grounded, realistic world and staying true to Gothic’s magical, fantastical atmosphere.
The Gothic 1 Remake was first teased back in 2019 with a surprise demo that captured fans’ attention. However, it wasn’t until 2020 that we received confirmation the remake was truly in the works, and the game has been under development ever since. While a release window was initially set for March 2025, only a new demo surfaced in early 2025, revealed during Steam Next Fest. Alkimia Interactive has been actively listening to community feedback, with plans to implement several key changes based on player reactions. Though the remake’s official release date remains elusive, the upcoming THQ Nordic Showcase in August may finally reveal when players can expect the game to hit stores.
