Apple’s AI Dreams Are In Trouble – Urgent Acquisitions Needed to Compete

Apple’s ambitions with artificial intelligence (AI) are in jeopardy as top analysts warn that Apple Intelligence could fail unless the company makes critical acquisitions in the next 12 months. Since its debut, Apple Intelligence has struggled to gain traction. At WWDC, expectations were high for meaningful updates, but instead, Apple unveiled only a Liquid Glass redesign to the public.

While the company opened Apple Intelligence to third-party developers, much more needs to be done to make the platform competitive with the likes of OpenAI and Google.

Daniel Ives, a prominent analyst from Wedbush, has stated that the next year is crucial for Apple Intelligence’s growth. According to Ives, Apple’s vision for AI, bolstered by third-party developer support, could prove beneficial in the long run. However, he emphasized that investors will be closely watching the platform’s development, urging Apple to make significant strides over the next year.

Apple may need to acquire AI companies to strengthen its position. Although the company has made several acquisitions in the past, they have had limited success, often targeting features that were either too small or unrelated to the main AI vision. In reality, Apple is trailing behind competitors like Google, OpenAI, and potentially even Samsung when it comes to delivering user-centric AI features.

The AI industry is reaching new heights, and Apple has yet to make a breakthrough. While it is typical of the company to take a slow and steady approach, Apple must accelerate its AI efforts if it hopes to retain or even expand its user base. The delayed launch of the much-anticipated Personalized Siri experience dealt a significant blow to Apple’s image and credibility in the AI space. Users are now expecting this feature to arrive early next year. Siri, in its current form, has always been underwhelming, and while some users have long wanted a better AI assistant, a ChatGPT-like chatbot could offer a more comprehensive solution.

The analyst did not specify the exact types of acquisitions Apple should pursue, but remains confident that the company has the potential to turn things around. WWDC 2025, which was not focused on AI, suggests that Apple may be working on something even bigger for its users. We will continue to provide updates on Apple’s acquisition plans, so stay tuned.
