Apple is getting ahead of the academic calendar by launching its 2024 Back to School promotion just as summer begins. Starting June 17, students, parents, and educators purchasing select Apple products will receive an Apple gift card as part of the deal.
But that’s not all-Apple is also arming college students with a hilarious new pitch to convince their parents to fund a MacBook.
Originally featured on YouTube (and now mysteriously removed), Apple’s video titled “How to convince your parents to get you a Mac” features a comedic workshop led by a college-aged ‘instructor’ teaching students how to make a persuasive case. His first argument? The MacBook Air is better for your spine.
“You can’t put a price on spinal health,” he jokes, highlighting that the MacBook Air weighs just 2.7 pounds. “Maybe your parents don’t care about your spine. I doubt that, right?” The idea is that lugging around a heavy PC laptop can harm your posture, whereas the featherweight MacBook Air is a healthier alternative.
Wrapping up his pitch, the instructor lays out the pros and cons with humor: “You can either buy a MacBook Air for $899, or buy a PC-but then you’ll also need antivirus, backup software, a protective case, a guard dog for your roommate, and probably a power bank too.”
Although the video has been taken down, Apple still offers students a downloadable presentation titled “45 Undeniable Reasons Why a Mac Is Essential for College.” Available in PowerPoint, Google Slides, and Keynote formats, this deck is designed for students to present to their parents as a formal proposal for why a MacBook is the best college companion.
Even if you’re not a student, it’s worth checking out-just in case your parents are still feeling generous.
