Apple has rolled out an unexpected update for the iOS 26 Developer Beta 1, targeting iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 users. The new version comes shortly after the original release on June 9th, following Apple’s keynote at WWDC.
Despite being labeled a ‘Developer Beta,’ anyone with a compatible iPhone can install it without needing a developer account, as Apple no longer requires the $99 registration fee.
While the first release introduced the usual beta quirks, it also caused a significant issue for some users. A bug triggered the low battery icon in the status bar, and for some, this resulted in their device failing to power on after installing the update. Apple swiftly responded with today’s revision, specifically designed to address the battery issue and prevent bricking iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models.
If you own an iPhone 11 through iPhone 14 series, you’re safe from this battery glitch, and devices older than the iPhone 11 aren’t compatible with iOS 26. The update is part of Apple’s commitment to developers, providing them with the tools to ensure their apps are ready for the upcoming iOS 26 release, which is expected to roll out as a Public Beta in July and a stable version in September, alongside the iPhone 17 series, including the iPhone 17 Air.
One standout feature of the iOS 26 Developer Beta 1 is the new Liquid Glass design. Apple has introduced a stunning translucent effect that creates a modern, dynamic aesthetic through real-time light refraction
. This look aims to bring a fresh, sleek appeal to the user interface.
If you’ve previously registered for the Apple Beta Software Program, navigate to Settings > General > Software Update. Tap on Beta Updates at the top, select iOS 26 Developer Beta, and a checkmark will appear. Return to Software Update to initiate the installation. Be sure to back up your device before proceeding.
For iPhone 15 or 16 users who have already installed iOS 26 Developer Beta, go to Settings > General > Software Update, and you should see the prompt to download the updated version.
