Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone is set to make waves in the smartphone world, but not just because of its innovative design. According to the latest reports, it could feature the largest battery capacity of any device in Apple’s lineup. While Apple has traditionally lagged behind competitors in terms of battery size, relying instead on software optimization to improve battery life, this foldable iPhone might change the game.
The device is expected to have a battery capacity between 5,000mAh and 5,500mAh, a significant leap from the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s battery capacity, which will launch later this year.
The foldable iPhone will include both an inner and cover display, meaning its power consumption will be higher than typical smartphones. To balance this, Apple is rumored to be preparing a bigger battery to handle the increased load. This new rumor surfaced on Weibo, with Dingzhuo Digital and MyDrivers confirming the details. Apple is also reportedly looking into silicon-carbon technology, which could help increase the battery size without compromising the device’s slim design. However, it’s uncertain whether this innovation will be implemented in the foldable iPhone.
As for pricing, the foldable iPhone is expected to come with a hefty price tag. Rumors suggest that the base model will cost around 15,000 yuan (approximately $2,090). Some analysts, including those from UBS, believe the price will range between $2,000 and $2,400, reflecting its premium features. The estimated bill of materials for this device is around $759, which is even lower than the base iPhone 16’s price. Apple is clearly preparing to offer a device packed with cutting-edge technology, but it comes at a steep cost.
Additionally, the foldable iPhone is said to be equipped with the A20 Pro chipset, built using TSMC’s 2nm process and featuring advanced wafer-level packaging technology. The device will also use metal plates attached to its displays, with laser drilling technology aimed at preventing visible creases. While the foldable iPhone is still a couple of years away from launch (expected in the second half of 2026), Apple fans can expect a smartphone unlike any other.
