Apple’s Foldable iPhone Screen: Too Small to Compete?

Apple’s first-ever foldable iPhone has stirred up some buzz, especially in a market where Samsung and Huawei have dominated the foldable scene for a while. Despite being years behind its competitors, this device could still make a splash when it eventually arrives, possibly next year.

But what can we expect from its screen sizes? Well, recent reports suggest the foldable iPhone might not blow anyone away in this department.

According to sources, Apple’s foldable iPhone will sport a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch external screen. Compared to the 6.5-inch cover display and 8-inch primary screen on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, these dimensions seem a little underwhelming. Even the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which is more than a year old, could have an edge in terms of screen size, with the OnePlus Open also matching the iPhone Fold’s main display size.

But don’t get too disappointed yet-there’s still a chance Apple could make up for its smaller screens in other areas. It’s rumored that Apple’s foldable iPhone could feature a larger battery, greater durability, and possibly even a crease-free display that could make the design more attractive than the competition. While the device’s size might seem like a downside, these enhancements could set it apart in the long run.

Apple could also ignite a breakthrough in the foldable market, but the question remains: will it be enough to sway consumers? Research suggests the global foldable smartphone market will remain relatively small, with just 19.8 million units expected to be sold in 2025, a mere 1.6% of all smartphones. This isn’t great news for brands like Samsung, Huawei, Honor, and Motorola, who were hoping for more growth in this space. Samsung’s share is expected to shrink, while Honor and Motorola are on the rise. It seems the foldable market could still be in need of a real hero to turn things around.
