Apple has just announced watchOS 26, bringing a slew of exciting new features for Apple Watch users. Set to arrive this fall, the updated OS introduces the AI-powered Workout Buddy, which offers personalized, motivational insights during workouts. By analyzing your fitness data and history, it adapts to your needs and provides feedback through a trainer-like voice, helping you stay on track and motivated.

One of the standout features of watchOS 26 is the new Liquid Glass design. This design makes the interface look more vibrant and expressive, creating a dynamic experience as it renders content in real-time. The Control Center, notifications, and Smart Stack widgets will adopt this sleek new look. Additionally, the Photos watch face gets an upgrade, with numerals made from Liquid Glass, allowing you to see even more of your photo gallery.

The Workout app has also been revamped with four new buttons for quicker access to your favorite features. You can now set up music and podcasts directly in the app to automatically start playing when you begin a workout. Apple Music even takes it a step further by selecting the best playlist based on your workout type and personal preferences, ensuring the perfect soundtrack for your exercise session.

Smart Stack has seen improvements too, thanks to new prediction algorithms. By gathering more contextual, sensor, and routine data, it offers proactive prompts, called Smart Stack hints, that suggest actionable items at the right moment. For example, you might receive a suggestion to start a workout based on your habits or receive reminders for upcoming tasks.

Live Translation is now supported in Messages on Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2. If your iPhone supports Apple Intelligence, the watch can offer smart suggestions during conversations, such as triggering a Check In when a friend asks when you’ll arrive home or using Apple Cash for group gifts.

With the new customizable backgrounds in iOS 26, you can now bring your iPhone’s wallpapers to your Apple Watch. Additionally, the ability to respond to polls on your wrist and improved Smart Replies make interacting with messages more intuitive and efficient.

watchOS 26 also introduces a quick way to dismiss notifications by simply turning your wrist over after you’ve raised it to check the alert. This gesture works for incoming calls, alarms, and timers, providing a seamless experience.

Another nifty update is the auto-adjusting speaker volume. Your Apple Watch will now automatically adjust the speaker based on ambient noise, ensuring notifications, alarms, and calls are heard clearly, even in noisy environments.

The Notes app is also making its way to the Apple Watch, allowing you to create, edit, and pin notes right from your wrist. You can even complete checklist items and interact with Siri or the keyboard for a hands-free experience. Additionally, Live Listen controls now feature real-time Live Captions, offering greater accessibility for deaf or hard of hearing users.

As for the watch face gallery, expect a redesign that includes a Photos face that shuffles through your Featured content. This feature, along with all other updates, will be available through the Apple Beta Software Program next month, giving users a chance to try it out before the official release.

I don’t get why they are dropping support for older models… It’s frustrating to be left behind. 😤
