Apple’s upcoming WWDC event is around the corner, promising exciting software updates for its product lineup. While many Mac users eagerly await macOS 26, a new twist has emerged. 
Reports suggest that one of the last Intel-based MacBook Pro models from 2020 will not be compatible with the latest update.
Previously speculated as “Lake Tahoe,” macOS 26 will bring a significant redesign and a name change from macOS 16, following Apple’s shift to a year-based naming convention. Expect a major focus on productivity tools, along with visual enhancements inspired by Apple’s visionOS.
However, there’s bad news for some MacBook Pro owners. The 2020 13-inch Intel-based MacBook Pro, featuring only two Thunderbolt ports, is set to miss out on macOS 26. This model, equipped with an older 8th-generation Intel chip, lags behind the four-port 2020 MacBook Pro, which boasts the more recent 10th-generation Intel chip. Both models launched in 2020, but the two-port variant seems to be falling short of Apple’s standards for the new macOS.
Interestingly, Apple is also expected to drop support for other older Intel-based Macs, including the 2018 Mac models. So, if you own a 2020 MacBook Pro with dual Thunderbolt ports, or older models like the 2018 Mac mini or 2017 Mac Pro, you might want to consider that macOS 26 will likely not support your device.
