One of the more unexpected announcements at Apple’s WWDC 2025 event was the launch of the new Games App. You might be thinking, “Wait, don’t we already have a bunch of gaming apps on iOS?” And you’re right-but this one is different, or at least, it has its unique twist.

Apple has really stepped up its gaming game over the past few years. As an Android user, I didn’t expect to be impressed by iPhone gaming, but after seeing console-level titles like Resident Evil 4 Remake and Village running on iPhones in past livestreams, I was genuinely tempted

The Games App is a dedicated launcher that brings all your games into one place. As soon as you open it, you’ll see your most recently played titles, making it easy to jump back in. If there are specific games you keep returning to, the app lets you quickly access them as well. One thing I really appreciate is the quick access to Apple Arcade and your game download history. 
Even though I don’t use an iPhone as my daily device, I’ve accumulated a lot of games on my account, so this feature would definitely come in handy for me.
Gaming in 2025 is more social than ever, so of course, this app allows you to connect with your friends. You can see what games they’ve been playing, and effortlessly join in on multiplayer action if you’re up for it. Social features in games may not be my thing, but I can’t deny their appeal to others.

Apple is giving developers more freedom to be creative with these, so completionists should keep their eyes peeled for new and exciting additions. Game Center is also integrated, but it doesn’t seem to replace it-it’s just part of the app’s bigger package, which is all about convenience. Personally, I’d like fewer icons cluttering up my screen, but that’s a minor issue.
Overall, the Games App feels like a solid addition, especially if you’re already deep into Apple’s ecosystem. The app even has a counterpart for Mac users, which will be useful with all the new games coming to macOS. Will it replace other apps? Maybe, but it’s more likely to coexist alongside them, making it easier for gamers to navigate and enjoy their content.
