Rumors are circulating that Apple has finally settled on the iOS update that will bring the much-anticipated AI features to Siri. Since the launch of iOS 18.2 in December, which introduced some initial Apple Intelligence capabilities, fans have been eagerly awaiting the advanced features Apple teased during the WWDC 2024 keynote. Last September, shortly after the unveiling of the iPhone 16 series, Apple released an advertisement showing a glimpse of how Siri would soon become more ‘personal.’ In the ad, a schoolgirl tries to remember the name of a guy she met months ago at a café. Siri searches through her apps-Mail, Messages, Calendar, Files, Notes, and Photos-to find the boy’s name. 
Unfortunately, Apple had to pull the ad when it announced a delay in the rollout of these AI features.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple now plans to introduce Siri’s AI capabilities in the spring of 2026. The update is expected to debut with iOS 26.4, according to sources familiar with Apple’s plans. These AI features will allow Siri to access a user’s personal data, similar to what was demonstrated in the now-retracted ad. Another demo from WWDC 2024 showed a user asking Siri about their mother’s flight time and dinner reservation. Siri will also gain the ability to recognize what’s on a user’s screen, making it more intuitive than ever before.
Additionally, Apple is introducing a new system called App Intents, which will enable Siri to control apps across all Apple devices. This feature will allow users to make requests like ‘Create a new note,’ ‘Start a workout,’ ‘Order coffee,’ ‘Play a playlist,’ ‘Find a trail,’ or ‘Set a reminder.’ For iPhone users, particularly those who have been critical of Siri’s performance in the past, this update is much anticipated. The launch will mark nearly two years since these features were first announced at WWDC 2024, with a target release date of April 2026. Siri, which first debuted with the iPhone 4s in 2011, has long been overshadowed by Google Assistant and Alexa. Apple hopes this major AI overhaul will finally elevate Siri back to the top.
