Apple is gearing up for a modest update to its Vision Pro headset, with the new version expected to launch sometime this year. While this update won’t bring groundbreaking changes, it will feature a new M4 chipset, a notable upgrade from the M2 chip in the original model.
The updated headset will also benefit from an enhanced Neural Engine with more cores, improving performance.
Alongside these upgrades, the new version will include a redesigned strap to help alleviate neck strain and reduce head discomfort during extended use. While it won’t make the device lighter, it should improve the overall experience for users. The true redesign, which includes a lighter Vision Pro, is expected in 2027.
This upcoming update serves as a temporary fix, allowing Apple to remain competitive in the headset market despite ongoing concerns about comfort and the hefty price tag. So far, Apple has sold only a few hundred thousand units of the Vision Pro, which is a far cry from the massive sales figures expected for a device touted as the future of computing. It’s no surprise, given that the device is known for its uncomfortable weight and high cost, which may only be somewhat alleviated by the new model.

Maybe the M4 chip will make it worth the investment, but I’m not convinced yet
