Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake Confirmed by Edward Kenway’s Voice Actor

The whispers about an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake just got louder, and this time it’s not from a leak or anonymous source-it’s from Edward Kenway himself. Actor Matt Ryan, who originally voiced the charismatic pirate assassin, teased the remake in a rather candid moment at a fan convention.

When asked about the game, Ryan responded slyly, “Have you beaten the game? Well, you may have to beat it again. Especially this one.

There’s a reason I say that, but I can’t say anything.” That’s as close to a wink-wink confirmation as it gets.

The first whispers of a remake began back in 2023, when Kotaku reported Ubisoft’s plans to modernize the 2013 classic. Ubisoft Singapore, known for its work on naval mechanics, is said to be collaborating with the Montréal team to bring back the high seas adventure in a fully updated experience.

Insider Tom Henderson revealed last year that the Black Flag remake was already deep in development. Initially expected in 2025, the game’s release has reportedly been pushed to 2026 due to the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, now launching in early 2025.

That said, with Matt Ryan openly teasing it, fans are expecting a reveal sooner rather than later-possibly during Gamescom Opening Night Live or The Game Awards later this year.

As the franchise navigates its future, Black Flag remains one of the most beloved entries. A full remake could reintroduce its iconic pirate setting, seamless ship combat, and rich storytelling to a whole new generation of players-provided Ubisoft doesn’t overload it with monetization or controversial changes.

One thing’s certain: Ubisoft is banking hard on nostalgia, and fans are ready to sail once more-if they don’t sink the ship first.
