Assassin’s Creed Shadows Breaks 5 Million Players, Ubisoft Reports Lower Performance for Rainbow Six Siege

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows has reached a remarkable milestone, surpassing 5 million players since its release. The game, which initially attracted 3 million players by March’s end, has seen tremendous growth. Players have collectively achieved over 2 billion stealth kills, covered a staggering 1 billion kilometers, and interacted with 38 million animals in the game world.

Despite this success, Ubisoft’s financial results for Q1 2025 came in below expectations, mainly due to issues with Rainbow Six Siege.

In a statement regarding the quarterly results, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot acknowledged the mixed performance. While Assassin’s Creed Shadows exceeded its targets, Rainbow Six Siege’s performance was affected by temporary technical pricing issues. These disruptions impacted player spending, though the issue has been resolved, and Guillemot remains optimistic about the game’s growth, citing solid player engagement and activity levels. The CEO also pointed to two other factors contributing to the lower-than-expected bookings: a delay in a partnership expected to materialize in Q2 and a negative foreign exchange impact.

Looking ahead, Ubisoft is continuing its strategy of launching Creative Houses to enhance its franchises. The first such house, responsible for overseeing games like Rainbow Six, Far Cry, and Assassin’s Creed, will be led by Christopher Derennes and Yves Guillemot’s son.

Meanwhile, fans of Assassin’s Creed Shadows can look forward to the upcoming expansion, Claws of Awaji, scheduled for release in fiscal Q2. It promises more than 10 hours of new content, including fresh weapons, skills, and abilities. Rumors suggest the expansion might drop as early as September, but an official announcement is still pending.
