Atomic Heart 2 Brings Expanded RPG Elements and a Vast, Dynamic World
Following the announcement of Atomic Heart 2 at Summer Game Fest 2025, we had the chance to speak with Robert Bagratuni, founder, CEO, and game director at Mundfish, to dive deeper into the sequel of the popular first-person shooter. Bagratuni’s interviews were featured extensively during the development of the first game, and we now have fresh insights into the exciting new features of the upcoming title.
This time around, Atomic Heart 2 will include a much stronger focus on RPG elements, alongside a massive, dynamic world that feels alive and ever-changing. Bagratuni explains:
“We’re introducing a more expanded RPG layer in Atomic Heart 2, but we’re doing it the Mundfish way-integrated into the world and the experience, not layered on top just for complexity’s sake. The ‘living world’ means we want the world to feel less like a backdrop and more like a responsive, evolving system.”
In Atomic Heart 2, players will be able to engage with deeper weapon customization, skill trees, and progression paths that will allow for a more personalized playstyle. While the game introduces side activities, these will never overshadow the core narrative. Instead, they will reward curiosity, adding layers to the experience without turning it into a checklist-style open-world game.
The sequel promises a larger world that offers players more freedom in exploration, revisiting areas, and engaging with various systems, such as vehicles and traversal tools. There will be a focus on verticality, expanding how players can approach the environment. Bagratuni adds:
“Choices do matter, and your actions can influence how certain events or missions unfold. There’s a core narrative path, but also a lot of space for discovery and replayability.”
Environmental elements such as dynamic weather and time of day will play a role in shaping the mood and gameplay experience, all while maintaining the signature handcrafted, surreal tone that fans loved in the original. Bagratuni also teased that companions will make a return, but wouldn’t reveal too much for fear of spoilers.
While there’s a lot to look forward to, Bagratuni confirmed that Atomic Heart 2 is still a few years away, as the team is focused on improving the game’s polish, ensuring it delivers a tighter and more immersive experience. For now, we’ll continue to cover any major updates and rumors throughout the development phase.
