Bethesda Breaks Silence on Starfield’s Future: More Updates Coming Soon

After months of silence, Bethesda has finally spoken out about the future of Starfield, and while the details are still scarce, the company promises that exciting things are on the horizon. Players have long been frustrated by Bethesda’s lack of communication regarding updates, particularly after Starfield missed its chance to make a splash at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2024. While other titles like The Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76 got their moments in the spotlight, Starfield was absent, leaving fans disappointed.

As Bethesda turns its attention to the upcoming Gamescom in August, the company has posted an update on Steam confirming that work is still underway on the game’s future.

In a brief but reassuring statement, Bethesda shared, “Looking ahead, we’re continuing work on future updates and will share more about the exciting things we have planned for Starfield in the coming months.” This statement accompanies the launch of Starfield Update 1.15.222, which is currently in beta form.

Fans are hoping that this means the long-awaited second Starfield expansion is still in the works. With the possibility of Starfield making its way to PlayStation 5, there is still hope for the game’s growth and future. The game, which launched in September 2023, was Bethesda’s first new IP in 25 years, but it hasn’t been as well received as their other massive franchises, such as Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. The Shattered Space expansion, released in September 2024, has even garnered “mostly negative” reviews on Steam.

Despite these setbacks, Starfield managed to hit 15 million players, but the question remains: will Bethesda continue to support the game or shift its focus to other franchises? In June 2024, the company assured fans that it would remain committed to Starfield, with at least one more story expansion planned. Todd Howard, in an interview with YouTube’s MrMattyPlays, even mentioned the ambition to release an annual story expansion for “hopefully a very long time.”

The studio has been facing some challenges, including major layoffs at Microsoft, which affected its London office and ZeniMax Online Studios, as well as the cancellation of its unannounced MMORPG. However, Bethesda’s commitment to Starfield remains clear. Fans can expect more details in the months to come as Bethesda looks to reignite the excitement around the game.
