Blue Protocol: Star Resonance – Bokura Founder Roy Answers the Community’s Biggest Questions
On May 15, 2025, fans received the exciting news they’ve been waiting for: Blue Protocol: Star Resonance, the highly anticipated anime MMORPG from Shanghai’s Bokura Network Technology, is officially coming to the West in 2025, courtesy of publisher A Plus. The announcement came shortly after the game’s Chinese beta ended, and the hype has been steadily growing ever since.
True to its community-driven approach, Bokura opened up a rare opportunity for the game’s English-speaking fan base at Star Resonance Database to directly engage with the team behind the game. Through a series of questions sourced from the Discord server, players had the chance to interact with the game’s founder and experienced producer Roy, who has previously worked on MMO titles like Dragon Nest Mobile and Ragnarok Origin: Love at First Sight. Roy was more than happy to answer some of the most pressing questions from the fanbase.
Q1: Who is the target audience for Star Resonance, and what content areas will you focus on?
A: Our team is filled with passionate anime fans, and with my experience producing MMOs, I’ve always dreamed of creating a game with a distinctly anime aesthetic. The game will target both anime enthusiasts and traditional MMO players, as we feel there’s a lack of games that cater to both communities. Blue Protocol will mainly focus on a hybrid of PvE battle and casual gameplay. As we continue to listen to player feedback, we’ll consider expanding into other areas in the future.
Q2: Will the monetization system be adjusted for Western players to avoid a pay-to-win environment?
A: We don’t want to create a P2W environment. Although players can exchange currency for convenience, this won’t offer exclusive advantages, and all progression can be earned through gameplay. Our Trading Center ensures that even paid boosts benefit the community by circulating resources. Our goal is to foster a fair and balanced economy while offering players optional purchases to support development.
Q3: What type of progression-related content can players expect?
A: The combat and progression systems are designed to cater to all playstyles. Hardcore players can enjoy PvE challenges like dungeons and 20-player raids, while casual players will have access to activities like house-building, fishing, and other social mini-games. Each season will introduce fresh content, ensuring the game remains dynamic for all types of players.
Q4: What is your design philosophy for expanding the game?
A: We aim to keep progression systems streamlined and accessible. Rather than adding new mechanics, we’ll continue to expand and refine existing systems, adding depth and fresh twists to keep the experience engaging without overwhelming players.
Q5: How will the game address the issue of grindy progression-related content?
A: We aim to make core progression enjoyable and accessible for everyone. Our seasonal approach will ensure that even veteran players find new excitement in familiar gameplay, and we’re focused on enhancing social experiences through features like housing and seasonal events.
Q6: Will dynamic world events be included in the game?
A: We love dynamic events and are evaluating their potential for future updates. While we’re focusing on refining the game’s core experience first, unscheduled world events may be added down the line.
Q7: Will there be anime collaborations in the future?
A: Absolutely! We’re planning future collaborations with anime and manga IPs. Stay tuned for surveys where players can vote on which IPs they’d love to see in the game.
Q8: Will the shared warehouse system be expanded?
A: For now, we’re not lifting restrictions on shared storage. Our goal is to encourage cooperation without creating pressure to grind on alternate characters. This is designed to avoid the multi-account problem while still allowing resource sharing among friends.
Q9: How will the Life Skill system be improved for casual players?
A: We’ve optimized the Life Skill system to accommodate casual players, ensuring they don’t feel pressured to create multiple characters to maximize efficiency. Players can enjoy these activities without the grind.
Q10: Will the auto-combo system be adjusted to suit Western players’ preferences?
A: The auto-combo system is designed to reduce unnecessary grind in low-difficulty areas without compromising gameplay. Rewards from AFK farming are strictly controlled to minimize its impact.
Q11: Will the game have a mega-server structure?
A: We’re aiming for a mega-server solution so players can play together, regardless of physical location. While there are technical challenges, we’re working towards a solution that will satisfy players.
Q12: What languages will be supported at launch?
A: The game will launch with English localization and Japanese VO. We’re also working on additional languages based on player feedback.
Q13: Will a housing system be available at launch?
A: Yes! Players will have their own homestead, which includes an island and house. You can customize your house and even manage a small farm to sell crops for in-game currency. We’re offering high freedom of customization and will continue to expand the system post-launch.
Q14: Are there plans to add more classes after launch?
A: Yes! The Guitarist class will be available at launch, and we have plans to introduce additional classes in future updates.
Q15: Will the game be available on consoles or Steam Deck?
A: We’re adding controller support at launch and are open to the possibility of releasing the game on consoles or Steam Deck, although nothing is confirmed yet.
Q16: Will there be more character customization options for the Western release?
A: Yes, we’ll be adding more cosmetic options, including new eye shapes and hairstyles, to allow players to better express themselves.
Q17: Will a character creator be available before the game’s release?
A: We’re working on a character creation code system, and it’s likely to be available at launch.
Q18: Can we expect the game’s release soon?
A: We’re preparing for a global beta, and the release won’t be much longer. Stay tuned!
Q19: Will there be more opportunities for community feedback?
A: Yes! We have plans for developer live streams and more opportunities for players to ask questions and provide feedback.
