Buffy the Vampire Slayer Returns: Dynamite Entertainment to Publish New Buffy and Angel Comics

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Returns: Dynamite Entertainment Brings Buffy and Angel Back to Comics

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise, a beloved part of TV and comic history, is about to get a fresh update. Dynamite Entertainment, the latest publisher to take on the franchise, is launching two new interconnected comics: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. These titles, set to be written by the acclaimed Absolute Wonder Woman and Birds of Prey writer Kelly Thompson, promise to breathe new life into the iconic characters.

Covering both Buffy and Angel’s worlds, these comics will stay true to the essence of the original TV series, maintaining a tightly connected continuity. While there’s still much to be revealed, we do know that the series will likely take place in the familiar Buffyverse, as evidenced by the cover art by David Nakayama.

Thompson, who has long been a fan of Buffy Summers, shared her personal connection to the character. “Buffy was everything my young geek heart had always wanted,” she said. “Her mix of horror, fantasy, and comedy, paired with her being a pure-hearted yet flawed and relatable hero, was impossible to resist. Buffy’s world always had something new to offer, and I hope this new series will do the same for fans old and new.”

Editor Nate Cosby echoed Thompson’s enthusiasm: “Kelly Thompson’s passion for these characters is unmatched. The intertwined stories she’s crafting for Buffy and Angel are sure to blow fans away.”

Fans of the series may wonder how these new comics will fit into the Buffy timeline. Previously, Dark Horse Comics and BOOM! Studios have both published Buffy stories, each with their own take on the characters and lore. Dark Horse continued the TV series continuity with Buffy: Season 8, while BOOM! reimagined the world in a 2019 reboot. Will Dynamite’s comics align with those storylines, or will they present an alternate universe of Buffy and Angel? Only time will tell.

For now, fans can look forward to more details coming soon from Dynamite, as they tease upcoming creative team announcements and release dates.

Stay tuned for updates on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, and if you’re a die-hard fan, check out some of the best episodes of the original Buffy series!
