Can Samsung Galaxy G Fold Beat Huawei with Tri-Fold Design?

When you’re handed $2,000 and told to get the best foldable phone, here’s what I’d do: I’d grab $1,000 and spend it on some frivolous activities, maybe sipping cocktails on a beach somewhere (you know, the usual) and leave the other $1,000 for a Huawei Pura X foldable. It’s not that I don’t love high-end devices, but this Huawei phone just speaks to me more than any of the competition. Oppo, Samsung, Google? They just can’t compete with what Huawei offers in a foldable right now. And before you get mad, yes, I do appreciate the Oppo Find N5 – it’s stunning with its sleek 4.2mm thickness and powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.

Still, I can’t shake off my love for the Huawei foldable, despite its flaws.

The Pura X’s flip-style form factor and its 16:10 aspect ratio are simply unbeatable for my needs. I like my devices large enough to show off media like pictures and videos from my trips, but I don’t want to haul around a tablet or laptop. The Pura X offers the best of both worlds: a compact, foldable form that’s easy to carry, but still big enough to enjoy content. Of course, it comes with the catch of limited app support since it uses Huawei’s Harmony OS, but it’s a small price to pay for that unique design and display.

Despite all this love for the Pura X, there’s still room for other foldables to rise, and Samsung might be the one to top Huawei in the near future. Samsung’s rumored Galaxy G Fold could be the device to shake up the foldable market. With a tri-fold design and 16 GB of RAM, it’s definitely making waves. If Samsung pulls this off, they could overshadow Huawei’s Mate XT, which remains the only commercially available tri-fold to date. However, the G Fold might face some hurdles, including potential limitations with its battery size, rumored to be only 4,400 mAh. That’s a bit of a letdown for a device this size. Still, Samsung’s track record with foldables and the strength of the Galaxy and One UI ecosystem might just win over consumers.

In the end, while Huawei’s Pura X remains my favorite foldable for its design and form factor, I can’t ignore the possibility that Samsung might have something revolutionary on the horizon. Let’s see if they can surpass Huawei’s Mate XT or if the Pura X’s unique appeal will still keep me loyal to Huawei.

I’m not buying any foldable until the cameras are better. What’s the point if I can’t take good pics, right?
