OpenAI has unveiled its next major leap in AI functionality with the release of ChatGPT Agent, a smart assistant that doesn’t just chat – it actually gets things done for you. Built on a powerful new model that blends the strengths of the former Operator prototype with deep reasoning, web interaction, and coding capabilities, this AI is designed to carry out complex tasks on your behalf – from start to finish.
According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Agent operates on its own virtual computer, seamlessly combining decision-making with execution. 
You tell it what you need – rescheduling meetings, filling out spreadsheets, drafting research papers, even booking your entire vacation – and it takes over. No back-and-forth required, no jumping between apps. Just results.
For professionals, it means automating repetitive and time-consuming tasks. For casual users, it’s your personal assistant who can handle things like planning a trip, finding the best deals, or even organizing your email. And yes, it can sync with services like Gmail and GitHub to fetch relevant information when needed.
While OpenAI hasn’t disclosed which specific model powers this new Agent, it’s trained across multimodal tasks using code terminals, text and visual browsing tools, hinting at its versatile and deeply integrated architecture.
Rollout is happening in stages: ChatGPT Pro users can access it now, while Plus and Team subscribers will see it added to their accounts starting Monday via a new dropdown ‘agent mode’ in ChatGPT’s interface.
