Chromebook Plus Just Got Smarter: AI Features to Boost Productivity and Creativity

Google is rolling out a game-changing AI update for Chromebook Plus devices, packed with a range of new features that make productivity and creativity even easier on ChromeOS.

This major update brings cutting-edge AI tools to your fingertips, enhancing the core Chromebook experience with smarter ways to interact with text, images, and other content.

The biggest feature in this update is a smart grouping system that makes it a breeze to organize your workspace. When you have multiple windows open, Chromebook Plus can now automatically detect related content and suggest grouping them into a single virtual desk. For instance, if you’re juggling a meeting, a note-taking app, and a calendar, ChromeOS will intelligently group them into one workspace, helping you switch tasks effortlessly and keep your digital workspace clutter-free.

Another exciting addition is the ability to generate images directly from the Gallery app. Now, when editing or viewing photos, you can call upon Google’s AI image generation tools to create custom visuals in real-time, all within the app, with no third-party software needed.

Additionally, Google has introduced the “Select to search with Lens” feature. With just a long press of the launcher or through the screenshot tool, users can highlight any content on their screen and instantly search for it, perfect for shopping or gathering information about visual content online.

Text capture is another impressive AI-powered tool that allows you to extract editable text directly from images. Whether it’s handwritten notes, receipts, or recipes, this feature makes it easier than ever to grab content. You can even auto-populate calendar invites or create shopping lists straight from extracted text.

The new Quick Insert key adds convenience by allowing users to easily insert AI-generated images, photos, and emojis while writing or presenting. No more switching apps-everything is at your fingertips.

For those tackling dense or complex material, the new Help me read tool comes with a “simplify” option. This feature rewrites difficult passages into simpler summaries, perfect for students or anyone navigating technical documents.

New Chromebook Plus users will also receive a complimentary 12-month subscription to Google AI Pro, which includes 2TB of cloud storage and access to Google’s Gemini tools across Gmail, Docs, and more. Users will also be able to launch NotebookLM directly from the shelf, providing instant research assistance and writing support.

In addition to these AI-powered features, Google is expanding app support. The popular photo editor Luminar is now optimized for Chromebooks and will be free for three months with a Chromebook Plus purchase. Gamers will also get a treat with Netflix’s Squid Game: Unleashed, a 32-player battle royale, which will soon be available on Chromebook with keyboard and mouse support.

This update shows how Chromebook Plus devices are evolving from basic laptops into AI-powered tools for students, remote workers, and casual users. With new productivity tools and fun perks like Squid Game and Luminar, this update is a major step in enhancing both work and play.

While Chromebooks have traditionally been seen as underpowered for demanding tasks, updates like this one are changing that narrative. Just look at the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14, launching today-it’s the most powerful Chromebook ever, according to Google. With the growing Google AI ecosystem, it’s clear that Chromebooks are no longer just for light use; they’re becoming smarter and more capable than ever.
