inXile Entertainment is gearing up to deliver one of the most exciting RPG experiences of 2025 with their upcoming steampunk adventure, Clockwork Revolution. The game, first revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase, showcases a world where player choices truly matter, especially in its multi-person dialogues and ‘truly evil’ conversation options.
With its deep narrative and reactive world, the game promises to be a true roleplaying masterpiece.
The developers shared key insights into the game’s mechanics, emphasizing how the conversations you engage in can dramatically shape your experience. Brian Fargo, inXile’s founder and producer, explained that the game takes the time to allow players to connect with characters and feel the weight of their decisions. “This is a game that can be brutal. Not just in combat, but in the choices you make and how the world responds,” Fargo said, highlighting the importance of letting the conversations breathe and allowing each decision to truly resonate.
Chad Moore, game director on Clockwork Revolution and programmer on the cult classic Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura, added that multi-person conversations are a major part of the gameplay. In these dialogues, your choices-such as who to speak to and how to respond-can send the narrative in drastically different directions. A scene shown in the trailer depicted the player’s choice to speak to Errol instead of Alfie, resulting in Errol’s death and his absence from the rest of the game. These kinds of branching paths will be a core feature, making every playthrough unique.
Fargo also teased the presence of ‘truly evil’ conversation options in the game. While the trailer gave players a taste of these darker paths, Fargo stressed that such choices will come with significant consequences. “If you’re offering evil options, they need to actually pay off and have meaningful consequences in order for the good choices to feel good,” he said. This deeper layer of moral complexity will ensure that the player’s choices feel real and impactful.
While the game was first revealed in 2023, inXile is confident that Clockwork Revolution will launch in ‘due time,’ though no exact date has been set. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, didn’t mention the game in the 2026 Xbox lineup, which may suggest a later release date, possibly in 2027. For now, it’s confirmed for PC and Xbox Series S|X, with hopes for a multiplatform release in the future, thanks to Microsoft’s new multiplatform policy.
Clockwork Revolution promises to be one of the most ambitious RPGs in recent years, offering players a chance to explore a rich, reactive world with meaningful choices that truly shape their adventure.

This game looks cool! I wonder how much of the evil stuff we can actually pull off, though. 😅
