Cult of the Lamb Returns to Comics with Schism Special at Comic-Con 2025

Cult of the Lamb: Schism Special Brings New Story to Comics at Comic-Con 2025

The beloved Cult of the Lamb franchise, which made waves in the gaming world, is now expanding its reach into comics with the upcoming release of Cult of the Lamb: Schism Special #1. Following the success of its graphic novel, Cult of the Lamb: The First Verse, the story continues with a new chapter just in time for San Diego Comic-Con 2025.

Cult of the Lamb: Schism Special #1 is a 48-page one-shot comic that brings back the talented team behind The First Verse, including writer Alex Paknadel (known for Red Goblin) and artist Troy Little (who has worked on Rick and Morty vs. Cthulhu). This new issue marks another collaboration between Oni Press, Devolver Digital, and Massive Monster.

The comic picks up where The First Verse left off, following Lamb as they grapple with the fallout of their first follower’s sacrifice. Now, Lamb is on a blood-soaked quest to defeat the Bishops of the Old Faith. However, their lack of resolve threatens the growing cult, and The One Who Waits grows impatient with Lamb’s resistance to fully embrace the power and responsibility of the Red Crown. A new challenger rises when famine strikes, and a fresh conflict begins to brew.

“I’m not a gamer… I thought I wasn’t until this incredible story came my way,” Paknadel shared with IGN. “It’s the perfect revenge fantasy, but also a tale filled with the seeds of tragic greatness. You’ll experience the game events from Lamb’s eyes – their rise and fall, and the tragedy that began with their death.”

Cult of the Lamb: Schism Special #1 will be available for $7.99 on October 29, 2025, and is currently available for pre-order alongside Cult of the Lamb: The First Verse on Amazon.

IGN’s Tom Marks gave the original game a solid 8/10, describing it as “adorable yet unsettling,” a perfect mix of genres and themes. While the combat may not have the lasting appeal of other action roguelikes, building a cult and managing followers was one of the game’s most enjoyable aspects.

In addition, the Cult of the Lamb universe continues to grow, with the recent DLC expansion Unholy Alliance released in August 2024.
