Unlock Hidden Pixel Lock Screen Customizations with Android 16 QPR1 Beta

The latest Android 16 QPR1 Beta update for Pixel users brings some cool, hidden features, allowing further customization of the lock screen clock.

Although the stable Android 16 update has already rolled out to Pixel devices, those enrolled in the QPR1 Beta are still uncovering exciting additions ahead of the September Pixel Feature Drop.

One of the first hidden features in the beta allows you to customize the lock screen clock’s appearance with a slider that adjusts the numeral style and even adds the date and weather. To access this, head to Settings > Wallpaper & style > Clock, and you’ll find the slider beneath the clock settings. Dragging the slider lets you experiment with different clock styles, enhancing your lock screen.

As of the latest QPR1 Beta 2 update, Pixel users can also choose between a “rounded” or “sharp” font for the clock, adding a subtle touch of personalization. To try it, long-press the default clock from the preview image in Settings > Wallpaper & style > Clock, and a notification will pop up indicating whether the style is now set to “round” or “sharp.” You can toggle between the two styles by tapping on the clock itself.

So, what’s the difference between these two? The “sharp” style uses straight edges for the numerals’ start and end points, while the “round” style incorporates a more curved design at those spots. While the difference is subtle, one style may be more appealing to your tastes. Still, most users will likely not bother with this minor customization.

If you’re eager to try these features but hesitant about beta software, don’t worry. Based on my experience, this update won’t break your device or remove critical functions. However, as with any beta, it’s always wise to back up your data before diving in. To get started, visit Google’s Android Beta site, select your eligible Pixel device, and opt into the Android 16 QPR1 Beta. After a few minutes, head to Settings > System > Software update to install the update. It’s that easy!
