Destiny: Rising Brings Bungie’s Universe to Mobile This August

Destiny: Rising, Bungie’s new mobile spin-off set in an alternate timeline of the Destiny universe, officially launches on iOS and Android on August 28, 2025.

Developed in partnership with NetEase, this version shifts gears from Destiny 2’s ongoing narrative to explore a parallel universe with notable gameplay and character changes tailored for mobile play.

Instead of crafting your own Guardian, players will choose from pre-made legends like Ikora Rey and Iron Lord Jolder. There’s also a fresh face: Wolf, a fully customizable Lightbearer designed exclusively for this mobile experience. This blend of iconic and original characters hints at Bungie’s intent to balance familiarity with fresh hooks for mobile users.

The game offers classic strike missions, six-player PvE raids, and PvP battles, maintaining Destiny’s core multiplayer experience-albeit in touch-optimized form. Gameplay footage confirms that while the controls are reimagined, the visual and combat identity is unmistakably Destiny.

Despite that, longtime fans are reacting with skepticism. The inability to build your own Guardian, along with the mobile-exclusive platform, has sparked mixed reactions. While Bungie is betting on mobile’s massive reach, many console and PC players feel left behind by this shift.

Still, for those willing to try, pre-registration is now open, offering in-game rewards at launch.
