Devil May Cry 5 Hits 10 Million Units Sold: A Success for the Action Game

CAPCOM has reached another major milestone this week, announcing that Devil May Cry 5 has sold 10 million units since its release on March 8, 2019.

Available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, the action-packed game has had a long journey to this achievement.

When the game first launched, it quickly gained traction, reaching 2 million units sold within the first month. However, sales slowed in the subsequent months. It wasn’t until April 2022 that CAPCOM celebrated the 5 million sales mark. Fast forward to March 31, 2025, and the game had sold 9.1 million copies, with nearly 1 million units sold in just the last few months.

How did Devil May Cry 5 keep its momentum going? Several factors contributed, including the popularity of the Netflix Devil May Cry series, which played a significant role in boosting game sales. The show, which garnered over 5.3 million views, was a hit, ranking fourth globally in the ‘Shows | English’ category during its first week and staying in Japan’s top 10 for a full week.

Additionally, CAPCOM held a franchise sale in April that helped push the game’s numbers further. In a surprising twist, CAPCOM counts the Special Edition of the game separately. The Special Edition alone has sold 1 million units, which means Devil May Cry 5 as a whole has actually surpassed 11 million copies sold.

Devil May Cry 5 continues to receive high praise from both fans and critics alike. Wccftech’s own Francesco De Meo gave the game a near-perfect rating of 9.8 out of 10, calling it the best entry in the series to date. De Meo praised how the game refines the formula established in previous entries, elevating the franchise to new heights.

For newcomers to the series, Devil May Cry 5 is an engaging action game that offers a fun experience from start to finish. However, for long-time fans, it’s a much deeper, more rewarding experience, offering the complexity and excitement they’ve been waiting for over a decade.
